An immaculate and rare stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual with an Explorer style dial. This watch is a very early transitional model as the company stepped away from the smaller, and more bulky sized bubble back models that dominated their offering in the 1930's and '40's. This reference, the 6084, shows a lot of the DNA of what was to become the iconic Datejust model. The serial number for this watch is 878XXX, dating it circa 1953. The case is in excellent, only very lightly polished, condition showing only very light signs of wear, as one would expect from a watch dating back over sixty years. The serial and watch reference numbers are still clean and visible. The dial is original, exceptional and a rare configuration of Arabic numerals that, along with the arrow head markers and oversized Rolex coronet, are all washed with gold. It also still has the round lume plots on all 11 of the hour markers (there is never one present above the coronet). The hands are also original and hold the original lume, and the center seconds sweep hand is a handsome contrasting blued steel. The movement inside the watch is the automatic Rolex 'bubble back' style movement. The watch has an early "Super Oyster' original crown The case back is fully signed Rolex with model 6084 and 'I 53' stamped into the back to denote that it was made in the fist quarter of 1953.
